A quintessential "American Dream" is to invent a product, see it manufactured and sold around the world, then bask in the adulation of one's family and friends. Of course, taking big fat checks to the bank figures prominently in the Dream as well.
Unfortunately, a dream is all that many inventors have to show for their money and effort, and many times it is truly a nightmare.
U.S. Patent Office surveys reveal that 98% of patents never make money for the inventor. Why is this? What can you do to increase the odds that you are among the 2% of those who benefit from their toil and talent?
